Happy couples cozy in at a movie theatre

If you want to see couples in a happy relationship or marriage, one of the best places to see it is at a theatre. Yes, a theatre. That’s my observation from observing moviegoers from the back row of a theatre. Women love going out with their fellow to see a movie.
It always amazes me how kind couples are to each other in a theatre. They might bicker at each other during the week, but when it comes to going out to see a movie, they are like love birds. The man is always a gentleman. They sit where the woman wants to sit. I’ve never seen a couple argue at the movies. They enjoy their night out as if they were kids, or teens, again.
You see guys you’d never expect to see at a movie — and with a pretty gal at that. Some of the guys are the rough outdoors type. But they also have another side — all spruced up and taking in a movie with their sweetheart.
Most couples, with popcorn and drinks in hand –the woman leading — sit where the woman chooses.
It’s interesting watching a theatre fill up. A big burly guy with a shaven head comes in with a petite good-looking woman. They look like opposites. A mismatched pair, you’d think. She carries the popcorn; he the drinks. They walk slowly down to the middle of the theatre. She stops, looks at the big guy who nods and they go in halfway and sit down.
She hands him popcorn; he hands her the drink. They sit contently eating, drinking and talking while waiting for the movie to start.
A couple, probably in their late 60’s, walk down the side aisle. The woman leads. It seems they know exactly where they want to sit – on the aisle side. She goes in first and sits in the second seat. He takes the aisle seat. There’s a reason for that. He goes out and gets the popcorn. They munch on it and it seems to an observer like me that it wouldn’t matter what happened to the world outside, or to this planet, this couple will enjoy their evening out.
I watch two teens –guy has short hair; girl has long hair – walk quickly almost to the front of the theatre. Girl knows where she wants to sit. Guy follows.
Two rural couples, probably married 25 years or more, know where they want to sit. The men carry the goodies; the women have large purses. They go half way down the aisle and one of the woman stops and looks at her companions. They nod and in they go and sit halfway in the row of seats.
A retired dairy farmer and his wife have a happy look on their faces as they sit in the third row from the back. They are munching on chocolates. She is probably thinking of all the years he was busy with milking and chores. Now they can have a relaxing night out. No more rushing to get away from the farm when they want to see a movie, or go to a dinner.
A couple in their early forties comes walking in, hand in hand. Ha, I say to myself, I’ve got enough material for a column on romance. St. Valentine’s Day is coming.
.I’ll give men some advice as that important day is coming up, soon. If you’re thinking of getting your loved one flowers, chocolates or a syrupy card, that’s an easy way out. Do more. Take her out to a good movie. Go out for the evening. I’ve seen the happy faces. She’ll lead. And not to the back row.
