WESTMEATH — The Riverview Seniors Social Club hosted a delightful, unique, well-attended event on Sunday, May 22nd at the the Westmeath Community Hall.
The hall was filled with with laughter, conversation, applause and good times shared at the Hats, Heels and Hotties Tea.
Ladies of all ages attended the annual event.
Emcee Sheila Broome got things off to a light-hearted start with her original commentary on why we might need to buy some new clothes. Many of us attending nodded knowingly when she commented on closets full of clothes that don’t fit, are outdated or an outfit that we never wear but keep it because it cost a lot. That nicely segued into a fashion show presented by the Alia store of Pembroke. The models were all members of the Riverview Seniors and were much admired in their perfect outfits.
Maybe you are wondering about the title for the tea. Straw sun hats made beautiful by Linda Bromley hung as decorations and were later auctioned off by the well-known Cathy Williamson, who always provides extra entertainment with her unorthodox auctioneer style!
Heels were also part of the décor. Across the stage was a display of high-heeled shoes that would be the envy of even Imelda Marcos and apparently all owned by Carla Bromley.
The “hotties” were none other than men from the seniors club (or friends of these men) adorned in waiters attire and serving food and drink to the ladies. Perfect “hunks”!
The gracious hostesses for each table provided the fine china and cutlery, sold tickets for their table and many of them had also helped in the making and plating of tasty, fancy sandwiches and sweets. What would we do without the loyal group who look after providing food and devote countless hours to its preparation? Not to be forgotten are the tireless organizers, decorators and setting-up crew. The hall and tables looked so spring-like and festive.
A silent auction offered nothing but the best and was a plethora of tempting items supplied by Riverview Seniors and supportive businesses. The proceeds from this auction totalled over $1,100 and these funds will go to Hospice Renfrew.
Fun, food and much visiting filled the afternoon.
The next big event for the Riverview Seniors is the bus trip to Perth for theatre and shopping on June 30th. I understand it is sold-out.
Membership for this active Riverview Senior Social Club is available for $10 by contacting Jan Reeves at 613-582-3741.
