WHITEWATER REGION — When Suzie Sweetapple and Darwin Lacelle arrived home Monday, the first thing they noticed was a tree across the Passat Volkswagen parked in their driveway.
Laughing, Ms. Sweetapple said, “When we (backed) into the driveway, he said there’s a tree on your car. Knowing he likes to joke around, I said, ‘yea, right.’ He’s always teasing me.”
But, when she got out of the truck, it was true.
Ms. Sweetapple said they had a tree professionally removed for fear it would fall on their home. However, that removal left a space and, “It opened a swath for the wind.”
Sunday afternoon there were tornado warnings for the area and very high winds.
On a portion of Pleasant Valley Road, the road was washed out underneath where a culvert was . Pleasant Valley Road was closed between Fletcher and Powers roads until it could be repaired.
There were trees down on various roads.
Kaden McLaughlin, who is heading to kayak school in August, decided it was the perfect opportunity to ride his kayak in his uncle Jeff Lavallee’s field. The rain quickly fell and a small lake was created.
Janet Collins, Manager of Physical Services for Whitewater Region, said Pleasant Valley Road was the only problem that occurred within the township due to the storm.
However, she expects there were a few trees toppled over, but, coming to understand the residents in the township, if a farmer saw a tree down, he probably moved it off the road himself.
