RENFREW — International Women’s Day provided a special opportunity to celebrate the extraordinary contributions of women in agriculture in our community.

Women gathered on March 8 at Rocky Mountain House for a breakfast meeting organized by the RVH Foundation and sponsored by BMO to share their stories of inspiration, motivation, challenges and milestones, as well as visions for the future of women in agriculture.

Chris Ferguson, RVH Vice President of Patient Care Services and emcee for the event said she felt humbled to play a role in the event to help pay tribute to women making extraordinary contributions in agriculture in our community.

“As today is about all things women, it would be amiss if I didn’t mention something about our commitment to women’s health,” commented Ferguson.

She explained that just a few months ago RVH announced a renewed commitment to women’s health with the return of gynecological services to the hospital’s Ambulatory Care clinics. In partnership with the Ottawa Hospital, three specialists are now providing consults twice a week, office procedures and some minor surgeries.

“It is because of events like this and other fundraising efforts of the Foundation that we are able to offer the number of programs and services that we do,” said Ferguson.

Kim Sterling, co-owner of Sterling’s No Frills and RVH Foundation Board member, explained that fundraising helps the hospital to purchase technology and equipment necessary to provide care close to home, but not funded by the government, “We are proud to be making a real difference to the lives of our patients and their families, whether they’re in hospital or recovering at home.”
