WHITEWATER REGION – Whitewater Region firefighters responded to two calls over the weekend.
A house and a business each sustained some damage, but neither were destroyed, said Fire Chief Jonathan Wilker.
Friday morning a structure fire near Beachburg on Powers Road was called in to 911 at 7:15 a.m.
It was a full department response, Fire Chief Wilker said. The crews were able to contain it to the kitchen.
There was heat and smoke damage to the home.
It will need to have some work prior to the family moving back in, Fire Chief Wilker said.
Water was shuttled from the municipal fire hydrant at the corner of Powers and Robertson roads.
There were no injuries and victim support services personnel were on scene.
Sunday afternoon around 4 o’clock, an attic fire was called in from the Whitewater Brewery located on Pembroke Street on the westerm edge of Cobden.
There was a small fire in the attic, Fire Chief Wilker said. The crews were able to contain it to the attic.
He noted one employee was treated by paramedics on scene for smoke inhalation. Chief Wilker said the employee, along with a few others, attempted to put the fire out prior to the arrival of firefighters.
While trying to put out a fire is not the best solution, Chief Wilker said in this instance, the employees were not in danger.
He said there was no real fire until the firefighters were able to tear down the ceiling. The employees were using a fire extinguisher on an area where there was smoke, he explained.
The brewery was opened for dinner Monday night, he said.
Whitewater News tried to reach the people who live in the home and the owners of Whitewater Brewery, but was not successful.
