Impaired driver arrested after footchase

(PETAWAWA, ON) – In the early morning hours of June 7, 2019 members of the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a possible impaired driver. Officers spotted the vehicle on Petawawa Boulevard a short time later and attempted to stop the driver. The driver failed to stop for police and continued driving, eventually stopping in the area of Cardinal Crescent and Nuthatch Drive in the Town of Petawawa. The driver fled on foot and was caught by police after a foot chase.

As a result of the investigation Brian Glen NEEDHAM, age 35 of Pembroke, was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Failure or refusal to comply with breath demand
  • Flight from police officer
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Fail to comply with probation – two counts

In addition to the CC charges, the driver was also charged for the following violations under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA):

  •   Insecure load
  • Driving while suspended – two counts

The accused was held for a bail hearing and subsequently released on a Recognizance of Bail to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on June 25, 2019.
