Impaired driver collided with OPP cruiser

LAURENTIAN VALLEY TOWNSHIP — On the evening of April 19, 2017 at approximately 9 .pm., the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP responded to a report of a suspicious male walking along Highway 148 in Laurentian Valley Township. While responding to the call for service an OPP cruiser was struck on Pembroke Street East, just west of Highway 148, by a vehicle that attempted to overtake the police vehicle.
No injuries were reported as a result of the collision.
At the time of the collision the police vehicle’s emergency lights were activated. The driver of the civilian vehicle was found to be under the influence of alcohol and he was subsequently arrested at the scene. As a result. 45-year-old Gregg Mansueld of Pembroke is charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) offences: Impaired Driving and Driving with More Than 80mgs of Alcohol in Blood. He is also facing the following charges under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA) and the Highway Traffic Act (HTA): Fail to Have Insurance Card, Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance and Fail to Stop on Right for Emergency Vehicle.
He was released on a Promise to Appear for the CC offences and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on May 30, 2017. His driver’s license was also suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.
