Two people are facing charges in separate cases of impaired driving investigations over the past weekend by officers with the Renfrew Detachment of the OPP
Citizens are encouraged to call 9-1-1 if they spot a suspected impaired driver. This is treated as a life-threatening emergency.
On Friday, August 8 at 4:35 p.m. Sgt. Don Francis was stationary near the intersection of Highway 17 and Castleford Drive in Horton Township. A driver approached the officer and advised they were concerned about the driving of another vehicle.
The vehicle was pointed out to the officer and he followed the suspect vehicle. The driver committed several driving offences and was stopped on Julie Lane in Horton Township.
The male driver had been drinking and failed a roadside alcohol screening test. Following further breath tests at the detachment, Kevin Coulas, 60, of Horton Twp., was charged with driving over 80mgs.
He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on August 27.
On Sunday, Aug. 10 at 12:36 a.m. Const. Colleen McGrath stopped a vehicle on Highway 17 near Miller Road in McNab Braeside Township. During the course of the investigation the male driver was found to have been drinking. Following breath tests at the detachment Jeffrey Brown, 45, of Laurentian Valley Township, was charged with impaired driving and driving over 80mgs.
He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on August 27.
