Peacefully, Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at Walford on the Park, Copper Cliff.
Beloved wife of Denzil Gibson, predeceased 2012. Loving mother of Janette Haavisto (Jim), Floyd Gibson (Sue), Wayne Gibson (Wanda), Kevin Gibson (Ruth), Linda Henry (Dan, predeceased) and Joan Monahan (Dan).
Cherished grandmother of Michael, Christina, Matthew, Joshua (predeceased), Courtnay, Allyceea, Melissa, Rebecca and Erica.
Dear daughter of Edwin and May (Brown) Kennedy, predeceased. Dear sister of Elwood, Cecil, Floyd and Bob, all predeceased. Sadly missed by nieces and nephews.
Cathy was born and raised in Pembroke, where she married Denzil Gibson in 1954. They moved to Sudbury in 1959 from Cobden. She was a faithful member of St. Mark’s United Church where she actively participated in the church’s ministries and special events. Cathy had a wonderful gift of music, enjoying singing with her husband while she played the piano and he played the guitar and fiddle. She had been a longtime and well respected member of the Ottawa Valley Club. She lived life to the fullest having many interests including reading, knitting and making delicious meat pies. Cathy was a good shepherd and Samaritan to all she met echoing St. Paul’s words “I fought the good fight, I finished my course, I kept the faith”. The family expressed their appreciation to the staff at Walford on the Park and the Health Sciences North Dialysis Unit for their excellent care and compassion.
Cathy is resting at the Lougheed Funeral Home, 252 Regent Street at Hazel Street. Friends may call on Friday, Feb. 6 from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service in St. Mark’s United Church, 45 Walford Road, Sudbury, on Saturday, February 7, at 11 a.m. Interment in the family plot at Cobden in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations at the Health Sciences North Dialysis Program or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
