Over the past 40 years WT has lost many good friends, all connected by the Ottawa River. I didn’t know how to honour them until I received a call from Richard, the father of a young man from Boston who took his life. The father said the son’s years on the Ottawa were his best and he had an artist friend carve a granite bench and asked if I had a spot on the river for it. The location and the idea came immediately. There is a point of land just below the Lorne Rapids with its famous play spots, Garb and Bus Eater. The idea was to create a miniature Stonehenge with the bench positioned to provide comfort and solace while viewing the rapids. Creating the memorial was no easy task but beautifully done by Frank Deschamps with his backhoe and Mike Yolkowski doing the lettering.
We knew we would add more names but not so soon. We will be honouring Juan Antonio De Ugarte at 2:30 pm, Thursday, Nov 27th at Inspiration Point followed by a Peruvian Wake at Whitewater Brewery.
All are welcome. Because we are planning refreshments, it would help to know numbers. Please call 646.2241 ext 241 to let us know. Thanks.
Joe
