Whitewater News editor Connie Tabbert took a much-needed weekend off and attended the United Church Women’s retreat event at Camp Quin Mo Lac near Tweed. Sunday morning the 100 women attending the three-day event were quite happy to listen to crooner Elvis Presley sing a variety of hymns. When he asked if he could sing just one song that wasn’t a hymn, there were plenty of women who whooped and hollered, and their dreams came true…he sang We’re Caught In A Trap while gyrating those famous hips. But, alas, it must be noted, the real Elvis died Aug. 16, 1977. However, 18-year-old William Yong is a ringer for him, even winning a variety of awards at Elvis competitions, including those in Tweed and Collingwood. Following his performance, Ms. Tabbert didn’t miss out on an opportunity to get a kiss on the cheek from Elvis. Other UCW members from this area who attended the weekend event included Bea Richardson, Barb McGonegal and Lee Torvi. By the way, when you see Connie, wish her a Happy Birthday. She celebrates the double-nickles on Wednesday, Sept. 21.
