WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) — The Whitewater Kings suffered a loss and a win in two games this past week.
The Kings edged the Brockville Tikis 6 to 5 in overtime action last night in Brockville, with Quinn Vanhoof earning a hattrick and Jared Campitelli scoring twice, the second one was the winning goal in overtime.
However, the Kings were edged 4-3 on home ice Saturday night at the Astrolabe Arena against the Renfrew Timberwolves.
The Kings are busy this weekend with two games against the Westport Rideaus. They travel to Westport for a Friday night game at 8 p.m. followed by a home game Saturday night in the Astrolabe Arena in Cobden against the Rideaus at 7:30 p.m.
In last night’s game, three goals were scored in each period. Brockville was first on the scoreboard at 9:21 courtesy of Ryan Hunter, assist to Ryan Glazer and Jackson Grozelle. At the 14:49 mark, King Quinn Vanhoof scored, assist to Dylan Kuehl and Conrad Cybuski. With three minutes left in the period, Jared Capitelli twanged the twine with assist by Michael Hubers and Brayden Schimmens.
In less than a minute into the second period, Tiki Jared Elliot scored, assist by Mathieu Wuth. At the 5 and 8:07 minute marks, Vanhoof scored, the first with assist from Liam Enright and Josh Hampel and the second assist to Alec Lindecker. Closing out the period, Tiki Noah Edmonds scored at 14:05 with assist from Jared Alliott and Alex Torres-Gill.
The final period saw the Tikis score twice, the first time 15 seconds into the game and again at the 12:25 mark. Tiki scorers were Tyler Toomey, assist Elliott and Ryan Hunter and then Gabe Barrow, assist Torres-Gill and Elliott. With 12 seconds left on the clock, King Artyom Shiman scored unassisted, tying up the game.
At the 4:15 mark in the first overtime, King Campitelli scored, assist to Chad Moore and Michael Hubers.
The Kings racked up 20 minutes in the sin bin while the Tikis sat out 16 minutes.
King goalie Anthony Kervin had the win with 29 saves out of 34 while Tiki Goalie Theo Heropoulous, sharing duties with Brayden Kelso, suffered the loss, with a total of 23 out of 29 saves.
King Jared Campitelli was awarded the second star while first and second were awarded to Tikis Jared Elliott and Gabe Barrow, respectively.
During Saturday night’s home game, the Kings collected non-perishable goods, as well as $100, for the Cobden Food Bank, but came up short on ice in the 4-3 loss.
In the first period against the Renfrew Timberwolves, the Kings were down 2-1. Wolf Brad Benvenuti scored just ov
er three minutes into the game, assist to Johnny Howie and Andrew McIntyre. King Chad More scored 10 minutes later, assist to Liam Enright and Alex Lindecker. With less than 2 minutes left in the first frame, McIntyre scored assist by Benvenuti.
It was reversed in the second period, with Kings scoring two courtesy of Quinn Vanhoof, assist to Dylan Kuehl and Jake Pilon and Artyom Shiman assist by Michael Hubers and Moore. The lone Timberwolf was Arian Oki with assist by Connor Fulton and Benvenuti.
Half way through the final period, Cameron Mulholland scored, assist by Nick Buddy and Elijah Boisvert, to give the Renfrew Timberwolves the win.
Kings goalie Kevin Proulx suffered the loss even though he worked hard, saving 26 of 30 shots on goal while it was Renfrew’s goalie Kyle Renaud, with 17 of 20 shots on goal saved.
In the sin bin, the Kings sat out 10 minutes on five infractions, while the Timberwolves sat out eight minutes on four infractions.
The Timberwolves scored in one of five powerplays, while the Kings didn’t capitalize on any of the four powerplays.
The three stars were Benvenuti from the Timberwolves, Moore from the Kings and McIntyre from the Timberwolves.
