WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) — The Whitewater Kings won both weekend games.
In front of 100 hockey fans, the Whitewater Kings defeated the top team in the CCHL2 9-6 on Sunday at the Earl Armstrong Arena in Gloucester, even though they were outshot 31-27 by the Canadians. On home ice Saturday, the Kings defeated the Char-Lan Rebels 7-3.
The Whitewater Kings are in fourth place with 22 points in the Richardson Division of the CCHL2.
This week, the Kings play three games.
They face-off against the Ottawa West Golden Knights on home ice at the Astrolabe Arena in Cobden starting at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11. On Sunday, Nov. 12, the Kings travel to Casselman to play against the Casselman Vikings at the Brisson Arena with a 2:30 p.m. start. On Tuesday, Nov. 14, the Kings travel to Carleton Place and take on the Carleton Place Junior Canadians with a 7:30 p.m. start.
General Manager Kevin Ready said the tragedy of the car accident on Oct. 27 involving four Renfrew Timberwolves has hit the Kings hard, as many of them from each team played against or with each other throughout their hockey years.
Two young hockey players, Alex Paquette and Brandon Hanniman, died in this accident. To honour these young men, the Kings will be collecting donations towards a scholarship fund at Renfrew Collegiate in memory of Hanniman and the Trillium Gift of Life Network in memory of Paquette. Ready is also hopeful of having organ donor cards available for people to sign up with the Gift of Life Network.
“I hope we can raise a good amount of money for both organizations,” Ready said.
The donations, and cards if available, will be at the front entrance table at the Astrolabe Arena, he said.
