WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) — It was a tough week for the Whitewater Kings as they lost the three games they played.
The Ottawa Golden Knights doubled the Kings 6-3 Saturday night at home in the Astrolabe Arena; then the Casselman Vikings edged them 5-3 in Casselman on Sunday afternoon; and Tuesday night, the Carleton Place Jr. Canadians defeated the Kings 5-2.
This week, the Kings travel to Renfrew on Friday, Nov. 17 to play the Timberwolves at the Ma-te-way Rink with an 8 p.m. start time and Saturday night, Nov. 18, the Richmond Royals face-off against the Kings at the Astrolabe Arena in Cobden at 7 p.m.
The Kings remain in fourth spot with 22 points in the Richardson Division of the CCHL2. However, the point-spread is much closer with the Arnprior Packers at 21 and the Perth Blue Wings at 20. Topping out the standings are the Carleton Place Jr. Canadians with 33 points; the Westport Rideaus with 31 points and the Perth Blue Wings with 27 points. In second-last place is the Renfrew Timberwolves with 15 points and finally the Brockville Tikis bringing up the rear with 8 points.
In individual standings, Whitewater King Jacob McIntyre is in a three-way tie for 10th spot in points with 32. The other two in 10th spot are Luka Marinic of the Renfrew Timberwolves and Joey Laird with the Richmond Royals. McIntyre is also tied in 7th spot for assists with 19 points. The other four in also in 7th spot are Joshua Filoso of the Ottawa Junior Canadians and Casselman players Sebastien Plante, Brendan Doherty and Brady Clouthier.
Tuesday night’s game — 5-2 for Carleton Place Jr. Canadians
Carleton Place Jr. Canadian Danny Griffith, with Carter Holmes and Oliver Carriere, scored the only goal in the first period. The second period saw the Canadians go up 2-0 following a goal by Josh Dash with Ethan Wardman and Martin Templeton. Half-way through the second period, Jared Weber, with Reid Barber and Nicholas Olmstead, put the Kings on the scoreboard. However, the Canadians responded with two more goals, this time by Ryland Mosley with Reece Bolton and Bolton with Cameron Patton and Mosley.
In the final period, each team twanged the twine once. Bolton scored for the Canadians, assists by Patton and Mosley and then King Gage Tremblay scored, assists by Matteas Derraugh and Andre Simmard.
It was a quiet game in front of a crowd of 75 hockey fans, with the Kings sitting out four minutes on two infractions and the Canadians sitting out six minutes on three infractions.
Vikings 5 – Kings 3 – Sunday afternoon
The Vikings were on the scoreboard half-way through the first period, with Samuel Labre scoring, assists by Brendan Doherty and Gabriel Rousselle. The second period was busy, with the Kings scoring twice and the Vikings three times. Scoring for the Kings were Gage Tremblay (Jared Weber) and Jacob McIntyre (Brayden Stewart). The Vikings twang-twiners were Carter Malette (Ethan Wensink and Jonah Peters), Sebastian Plante (Brendan Doherty, Brady Cloutier) and Cloutier (Brad Richardson, Olivier Brunet).
Each team scored in the final period, with King Bailey McIntyre (Jacob McIntyre, Chad Cherry) and Viking Ethan Wensink on a shorthanded goal (Jonah Peters).
With 100 fans in the stands, the stars were awarded to Wensink, Jacob McIntyre and Doherty.
Home Game Saturday night
In the 6-3 defeat Saturday night on home ice, King Matteas Derraugh opened the scoring in the first period with assists by Andre Simard and Michael Karas. With less than two minutes left in the first period, Ottawa West Golden Knight Luke Mulvihill, assists by Justin Turner and Cameron Scrivens, equalled the score.
In the second 20 minutes, the Golden Knights scored twice within 10 minutes. Matt Turnbull, assists by Conor Witherspoon and George Young, twanged the twine followed by Cameron Scrivens, assist by Luke Mulvihill. King Jared Weber scored on a short-handed goal with assist by Andre Simard.
It was 3-2 going into the third period. Golden Knight Justin Jamer scored within two-and-a-half minutes followed by Kings Conrad Cybulski scoring 30 second later, assists by Dylan Kuehl and Quinn Vanhoof. The only team not done scoring was the Ottawa West Golden Knights. Justin Turner, assist by Luke Mulvihill scored with less than seven minutes into the priod. And, with 27 seconds left on the clock, Golden Knight Cameron Scrivens hit the back of the empty net, assist by Luke Mulvihill and Daniel Stratis.
In front of a crowd of just over 120, Golden Knights Mulvihill and Scrivens were awarded Stars 1 and 3 and King Andre Simard was awarded Star 2.
