Dear Editor:
I have often wondered why we need four levels of government. Looking at the Sunshine List from the County of Renfrew, this level needs to be reined in.
For the County of Renfrew to charge Whitewater Region $1,000 plus mileage to photocopy a few pages explaining remuneration to the council, is totally ridiculous.
Councillor Charlene Jackson said Charles Beakley from the county deals with union negotiations and arbitration and that the hours are well used up.
Whitewater has what — one union to negotiate with every three or four years, and arbitration usually stems from the county bullying someone or making an egregious error regarding the contract between the two parties.
For remunerations of $143,003.52, I feel Mr. Beakley, or one of his underlings, could certainly photocopy a few pages and explain the issue to the CAO and the council of Whitewater Region.
Sincerely,
W. Ira Byce
Beachburg
