Dear Editor:
Re: Garbage Contract in Whitewater Region Township
I sincerely hope the contract for garbage pick up in Whitewater Region Township will be re-opened and investigated. As I understand it the lowest bidder, NJL, was not given proper consideration on a reasonable bid that met the criteria of the contract.
I believe that NJL had the proper equipment to complete the job and Minstry of Environment licensing was not necessary at the time of the bidding process. If council members had or have preconceived notions about contractors, full disclosure should be made and written into record.
The garbage and recycling contracts were bundled together. That should not have happened as these are totally different issues. Contractors may have trouble getting rid of recycling because this is the biggest ruse perpetrated upon us since global warming….but that is a story for another day.
NJL maybe the victim of an earlier problem where bidders were misled about the volume and marketability of recycling.
At the very least NJL should be provided with a cogent explanation as to why the lowest bid was not accepted. Properly, NJL should be awarded this contract and receive an apology from council. Then and only then can full remedy be realized.
Sincerely,
W. Ira Byce
