WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) —
An artistic evening led the first event in the Whitewater Region Public Library Board’s Encounters with Great Writers series, which was held on June 12 and 13 at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Cobden.
The performance was directed by Conrad Boyce, who also appeared in the performance as assorted doctors, and spanned two nights. A total of 48 tickets were sold, bringing the total net revenue to $770.51 for the fundraiser.
Despite poor attendance, members of the Opeongo Odyssey Theatre Troupe from Opeongo High School put on a performance Shakespeare himself would applaud.
Narrated by Jeff Scott, Opeongo High School’s drama teacher, the performance consisted of excerpts from William Shakespeare’s plays. Some of the excerpts used were from The Merchant of Venice, Romeo and Juliet, Twelfth Night, King Leer and As You Like It, to name a few.
Mackenzie Reese’s 10 acting roles were portrayed with emotion. Her ability to grasp the language did not go unnoticed by audience members and neither did the acting of her fellow performer, Luna Nordhold.
Miss. Nordhold was featured in many starring roles, such as Cleopatra, Helena and Olivia. She delivered her lines with gusto and audience members were seen feeling the emotion in her words as she delivered her
monologues.
The entire performance was accompanied by the musical talents of Jordon Oattes. His talent was showcased through his use of a synthesizer, piano, guitar, mandolin, ukulele and percussion instruments throughout the performance. He even played the parts of Demetrius and Oberon.
The audience members who showed up to support this endeavour were all raving about the performances afterward.
