RENFREW COUNTY — On September 11, members of the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision in Laurentian Valley Township involving a pickup truck and an SUV.

The collision took place shortly after 3:00 p.m. on Greenwood Road, just west of Beachburg Road. The driver of the SUV was taken to hospital by paramedics with minor injuries and the driver the pickup truck was not injured. The drivers were the lone occupants of their vehicles.

The SUV was westbound, attempting to merge on to Greenwood Road from Beachburg Road, when it collided with a pickup truck that was eastbound on Greenwood Road. The driver of the SUV, 78-year-old Caryl Yokale of Whitewater Region, has been charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA). Driver distraction is believed to be a contributing factor in the collision at this time.

The collision resulted in significant traffic delays in the area for approximately one hour while police investigated. Both vehicles were severely damaged and had to be towed from the scene.
