COBDEN — The Main Street of Cobden should have new asphalt laid down on Friday if all goes well, said Donnie Peplinskie, Renfrew County supervisor for this project.
Since Monday, Sept. 12, Main Street has had some ongoing construction. It started with rebuilding and repairing the gutters, then the road was shaved and now the manholes are being repaired.
“We’re repairing the manholes, getting them up to the correct height so we can pave this week,” Mr. Peplinskie said late Wednesday afternoon. “There are 16 manholes between Pembroke Street and Gibson’s Garage.
“We encountered one that was in extremely bad shape and had to rebuild it,” he said while watching three RMI employees work on that manhole. “The guys are doing a good job. They’re very conscientious.”
RMI was contracted by Miller Paving to do the sewer work, Mr. Peplinskie, and part of that work is repairing the manholes.
Once the manholes are all to the correct height, the final lift of asphalt can be laid, and there’s hope that will happen on Friday, he said.
While it would be great if there were no vehicles on Main Street of Cobden during the laying of the asphalt, Mr. Peplinskie said people have to do their business and there’s always those who are curious to see what’s happening.
