WHITEWATER REGION — With Premier Ford releasing a three-stage plan for re-opening Ontario, the Township of Whitewater Region announced openings which began on Monday.
Boat Launches
On Monday, Muskrat boat launches opened and so will the boat launches on the Ottawa River, this upcoming Monday, May 11. The provincial emergency order required the closure of marinas but boat launches were not included. Accordingly, Township staff are installing dock systems to allow for the opening of the boat launches. Physical distancing measures must be followed and please keep six feet from others.
Leaf & Yard Waste and Brush
These materials will be accepted free of charge from residents of Whitewater Region on the following dates and times based on where you live. Please respect physical distancing measures, keep six feet from others and respect the limit of five vehicles in the landfill at one time. You may be required to produce your landfill card or other form of identification to access the premise. No other waste will be accepted. The 990 Kohlsmith Road landfill will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12 for Beachburg and the former Westmeath Township. On Thursday, May 14 it will be open the same hours for Cobden and the former Ross Township.
Landfill Regular Operations
Regular business hours will resume at 990 Kohlsmith Road on Wednesday, May 20 and Saturday, May 23 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Payment must occur with the exact cash amount, where possible. Electronic payment is being explored but is not available at this time. Please use regular curb side collection for residential garbage and recycling.
Provincial Fire Ban in Effect
Our dedicated fire department has responded to several calls. Be reminded that a total burn ban is in effect. Please respect your neighbours and our first responders and do not burn.
The Township’s Municipal Emergency Control Group, comprised of the Mayor, Reeve Cathy Regier, Chief Administrative Officer Robert Tremblay and staff from key areas, meets regularly by teleconference to review the current situation involving COVID-19.
