PEMBROKE — Miramichi Lodge has been an accredited long-term care home for fifteen years.  The Home recently underwent their most recent accreditation process with Accreditation Canada.

Accreditation Canada awards one of the following four decisions following the on-site survey:

  • Accredited with Exemplary Standing
  • Accredited with Commendation
  • Accredited
  • Not Accredited

Accreditation Canada recently advised that Miramichi Lodge has again been awarded their highest standing – “Accredited with Exemplary Standing”; “Miramichi Lodge has gone beyond the requirements of the accreditation program and demonstrates excellence in quality improvement”.  Accreditation Canada sets national standards and shares international leading practices to facilitate continuous quality improvement. Of the 448 quality standards applicable to long-term care; Miramichi Lodge met 100% of the standards.

Warden Jennifer Murphy states that this achievement demonstrates the organization’s commitment to ongoing quality improvement.  Mayor Janice Visneskie Moore, Chair of the Health Committee, said that with each accreditation cycle, the quality improvement bar continues to be raised in line with our culture of continuous quality improvement and added that she would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff and management for their efforts and dedication to the provision of safe, quality long-term care services.  Shelley Sheedy, Director of Long-Term Care for the Lodge, noted that the engagement and adaptability of our care team, an ongoing commitment to excellence and actively engaged resident and family councils are credited with our success.  Mrs. Sheedy thanked the leadership of Mike Blackmore, Administrator and the other accreditation leads, Jennifer White, Director of Care and Ria Macdonald and Dee Colborne, Resident Care Co-ordinators, as well as the entire management team, and co-ordination by Karen Fabian but noted that the biggest thanks goes to the front-line staff who ensure resident care needs are met to the best of the their ability on a daily basis.

Miramichi Lodge is a 166 bed municipal (not-for-profit) long-term care home. It is owned and operated by the County of Renfrew and City of Pembroke and has provided quality care to the frail and elderly since 1969. A wide-range of long-term programs and services including 24 hour nursing care, accommodation, meals, as well as physiotherapy programs and a variety of social and recreational activities. In addition to long-term care services, the Lodge also offers  a variety of community services such as respite care, Meals on Wheels in the Pembroke and Petawawa areas, a community Heart Wise walking program, chronic disease self management workshops, family support groups for dementia and monthly community paramedic wellness clinics. Miramichi Lodge was recently awarded a Four Year Accreditation with Exemplary Standing Award.
