Renfrew County and District Health Unit has received confirmation that additional AstraZeneca doses have been allocated to our region for people who received a first dose of AstraZeneca and will be requiring a second dose at the 12-week interval.

It is important to know that there is a 12-week interval after receiving a first dose of AstraZeneca, before a second dose of any of the available vaccines can be administered.

This applies not only to a second dose of AstraZeneca, but equally if you choose to have an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer and Moderna) for your second dose.

Most of the first doses of AstraZeneca in Renfrew County and District were administered the second week of April to the third week of April.

This means that the scheduling of the second dose for most people will be mid-July. Later this week, residents who received AstraZeneca in primary care led clinics will receive an email notifying them of their appointment date and time for their second dose.

The email will also include an option to identify if you would like to receive an mRNA vaccine for your second dose.
In the meantime, we ask you to be patient and not book an appointment on your own at an earlier date. This will not be allowed, and individuals will be turned away at the door to ensure that there has been the required 12-week interval between doses.

If you have already booked an appointment for an earlier date, please cancel it as soon as possible by selecting cancel in your email confirmation.

This is important so that others trying to get in for a first or second dose can use those spots.

If you believe you are eligible for a shortened dose interval of AstraZeneca review the COVID-19 Vaccine Series Second Dose Eligibility Quick Reference.
