RENFREW-NIPISSING-PEMBROKE — Cheryl Gallant, Member of Parliament for the riding of Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke, has written to Jane Corwin, United States Chairperson for the International Joint Commission (IJC), requesting immediate action to correct water management protocols for the Great Lakes-St. Laurent watershed, and a complete review of the controversial Plan 2014 be conducted.

“Plan 2014 was never brought before Parliament. No discussion or debate regarding the cost, including who would pay for losses due to flooding, or federal aid to deal with other problems it might cause occurred,” said Gallant.

“Many flood victims share my position that the likelihood they will get answers to their flood questions is greater through a U.S. led inquiry than has been forthcoming from the Trudeau government.”

Gallant stated she joins with New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo in requesting the IJC take immediate action to correct its water management protocols.

“The International Joint Commission (IJC) has no excuse for its failure to prepare for adequately managing the high-water levels Lake Ontario has experienced and continues to experience this year,” said Andrew Cuomo, Governor of the State of New York.

According to Frank Sciremammano, former International Lake Ontario-St. Lawrence River Board, Plan 2014 was developed in secret by a group that only consulted with environmental advocates who worked in secret.

Sciremammano claims no one knew who was on the committee, no one knew when they met, no minutes were recorded and no freedom of information was made available.
