Muskrat Atoms tie in Game 2 to stay alive in the play-offs

BEACHBURG — It was end-to-end action Tuesday night during the novice competitive play-off game at the Beachburg Arena.
There was plenty of shouting coming from those in the stands, cheering on the young hockey players, who are in the seven and eight-year-old age range.
The Muskrat Novice Voyageurs were facing-off against the Arnprior Novice Packers in Game 2. It ended in a 3-all tie.
Packer Bryce Rebertz opened the scoring in just under two minutes in the first period. He was assisted by Colin Lalonde. Rebertz wasn’t done, and four minutes later, he again scored, this time unassisted.
But, the Voyageurs weren’t going to be left off the scoreboard. Hunter Beauregard scored unassisted with 2:41 left on the clock.
In the second period, Owen Lynch, assisted by Tyson Verch scored for the Muskrat with 4:18 left on the clock.
In the third period, Kaden Benoit scored for the Packers in less than two minutes, assisted by Lalonde.
With the clock ticking down, the Voyageurs were trying their best to score, while the Packers were using every defensive tactic they’ve learned so far.
But, it wasn’t to be a win for anyone. With 4:48 on the clock, Wade Matheson, assisted by Hugo Boisvert, turned the red light on.
But, it wasn’t all rosey, as players on both sides spent time in the penalty box.
Voyageurs Tyson Verch and Danick Bourque spent time in the penalty box in periods 1 and 2 respectively. In the third period, Boisvert and Aaron Enright were in the box.
For the Packers, Rebertz and Lalonde were in the box during the second period, while Bryce Hodgson was in the box in the third period.
While both teams fought valiantly on the ice, each earned half a point in the two-point play-off series.
In Game 1, the Packers defeated the Muskrats 4-1.
Game 3 will be Tuesday night in Arnprior at 6 p.m.
In atom competitive action, the Muskrats defeated the Renfrew Timberwolves 3-2 in Game 1 of their play-off series, also in Beachburg Tuesday night.
Muskrat Voyageur Chase Congdon, assisted by Ty Moore and Chase Peck scored with 26 seconds left on the clock in the first period. In the second period it was Wyatt Davis scoring unassisted at 3:47. And, with 7:52 left on the clock in the third period, Davis scored again, assisted by Ethan Timm.
Ryan Kelusky, assisted by Garrett Box; and then Box assisted by Sawyer Smart, scored for the Renfrew Timberwolves.
Game 2 is at the Ma-Te-Way Arena in Renfrew on Saturday at 12:40 p.m.
In peewee competitive action at the Astrolabe Arena in Cobden Tuesday night, the Voyageurs trumped the Petawawa Patriots 7-1 in Game 1 of the play-off series.
Game 2 is 4 p.m. Sunday at the Petawawa Civic Centre.
In the bantam division, Muskrat Voyageurs and Pembroke Kings tied 3-3 in Game 1. Game 2 is at the Astrolabe Arena on Sunday at 3 p.m. while Game 3 is scheduled for the Pembroke Memorial Centre on Wednesday at 8:10 p.m.
