PEMBROKE — The Muskrat Pee Wee Voyageurs tried their hardest, but just couldn’t bring home the hardware from the Pembroke Regional Silver Stick held on the weekend.
They were seeded in the PeeWee ‘C’ eight-team division with Centre Hastings Grizzlies, Deep River Knights, Douro Dukes, Norwood Hornets, Powassan Hawks, Tweed Hawks and Valley Storm.
Voyageur team members are goalie Joe (Reid)Mick, Ethan Prange, Travis Lammi, Antoine Durocher, Carson Edwards, Tyson Mirault, Matthew Dick, Jayden Nadeau, Timothy Brochu, Andrew Plazek, Caley Campbell, Brent Ready, James Huckabone, Thomas Hamilton, Devan Punt and bench staff head coach Jason Gould, assistant coaches Riley Hennessy, Lorenzo Comparelli, trainers Quinton Rook, Steven Edwards and manager Jamey Mick.
The Voyaguers met up with the Powassan Hawks in Game One on Friday. The Hawks opened the scoring early in the game going up 3-0 by the end of the first period. It wasn’t until the second period the Voyageurs got onto the board with Thomas Hamilton putting it bar down with Tyson Mirault taking the point for the assist. The Hawks came back to answer with a goal 15 seconds later and took a lead of 4-1 going into the 3rd. The Hawks snagged another goal but the Voyageurs rallied to come back and Jayden Nadeau scored, unassisted, with only minutes left in the 3rd. However, the Voyageurs went down 5-2.
Saturday afternoon the Voyageurs took on the Douro Dukes. The Voyageurs opened the scoring with Antoine Durocher testing Dukes’ goaltender Josh Julian and walked away earning two points on the goal with Andrew Plazek taking a point for the assist. The Dukes answered at 9:48 to tie up the game.
In the second period, the trio Caley Campbell, Plazek and Mirault take the lead with a quick goal five seconds in. Not even a minute passes, Mirault, Plazek and Devan Punt rushed the puck and scored, taking the game to a 2-goal lead. Dukes rally back with a goal and another quick one in the 3rd. Game is tied at 3, and the Voyageurs come back and take the lead with Mirault scoring and Plazek, and Hamilton getting assist to win the game. Goaltender Joe (Reid) Mick stood tall in the net to help the team to victory.
Late Saturday evening, it was time for local rivals to meet up on the ice — Muskrat Voyageurs vs. Valley Storm. Plazek answered Storms’ quick goal with Travis Lammi and Brent Ready taking the assist on the goal to tie the game. Then Storm rebounds with another goal to take the lead, but only for a short time as Voyageurs Antoine Durocher grabbed a goal with Plazek taking a point for the assist to tie the game again. Storm came back with a goal in the second and third to earn the 4-2 win.
The Voyageurs current record for the regular season is 7-0-0, with them sitting in first place with 14 points.
