Muskrats shut down the Pembroke Kings 8-0 in Westmeath

WESTMEATH — In competitive hockey Peewee Muskrat shut-out Pembroke Peewee 8-0 Sunday afternoon at the Westmeath arena while the Deep River Knights shut-out the Muskrat 10-0.
It was a team effort as six Muskrats earned goals, all with assists except the opening and closing goals by Ayden Hawthorne and Maxime Asselin, which were unassisted.
The Peewee Muskrats started hitting the twine with less than two minutes into the first period and stopped with just eight minutes left in the third. Three goals were scored in the opening and closing periods with two in the middle.
Devan Punt and Danik Laroche each scored twice with singles by Hawthorne, Brent Ready, Ty Moore and Asselin.
Earning assists were Ready, Jacob Scheuneman, July Cobus, Punt, Maxwell Raesler and Dylan Nolan.
The penalty box was also busy with Asselin, Travis Lammi, Laroche, Punt and Nolan each sitting out for a total of 15 minutes.
On the Pembroke side, while the scoreboard was empty the penalty box wasn’t. A total of eight minutes was tallied up by Josh Easom, Quinn McIann, Hunter Selle and Jacob Dargus.
Muskrat league statistics show the Novice have won one and lost two; the Atom have three wins, a loss and tie; the Peewee have won all three of their games; and the Bantam have lost two and tied one.
Upcoming competitive hockey league games see the Muskrat Atom Voyageurs going up against the Deep River Atom Knights in Deep River on Friday at 6 p.m.
The following morning at 10:50 in Deep River, the Muskrat Novice take on the Deep River Knights while the Muskrat Peewee travel to Barry’s Bay for an afternoon game against the Valley Storm at 4 o’clock.
In upcoming house league action, the Midget Cobden 1 travel to Westmeath for a Friday night game at 7 o’clock.
Barry’s Bay Atom 1 are in Cobden for a 10 a.m. game Saturday.
In Novice house league action, Beachburg take on Petawawa 1 in Petawawa at noon on Saturday.
