Guelph, ON: The National Farmers Union-Ontario is hosting its annual convention and AGM virtually on Thursday, March 3 and Friday, March 4, 2022. The keynote address Indigenous Worldviews, Climate Change & the Way Forward for Northern Trappers: A Call for Solidarity will be provided by Dr. Priscilla Settee, David Suzuki Foundation Fellow and Professor at the University of Saskatchewan on Thursday, March 3rd at 7:30pm (EST).

Dr. Settee will describe her research as a David Suzuki fellow, documenting the impact of western development on Indigenous traditional economies and food producing capabilities, with a focus on trappers in northern Saskatchewan. She will also speak about her work as the co-editor of “Indigenous Food Systems: Cases, Concepts and Conversations”, and will speak to the importance of acknowledging and promoting community based Indigenous food systems both locally, nationally and internationally; and her belief that working in solidarity with global citizens will promote biodiversity and the world foods.

This keynote presentation is a feature of the Region 3/ NFU-O Annual General Meeting, which includes panel discussions on lessons learned from farm succession planning and land partnerships, reflections on treaty relationships, land sharing and co-farming, and farmer’s solutions to working with the realities of climate change, as well as reports from Regional Council and National officials, elections, and debates on policy resolutions.
