The Whitewater Bromley Community Health Centre (WBCHC) – a part of Lanark Renfrew Health & Community Services (LRHCS) has been working closely with representatives from the Ministry of Health, Honourable John Yakubuski MPP and many community partners to address the primary care and physician shortage keenly felt in parts of Renfrew County. John Jordan, Executive Director of Lanark Renfrew Health & Community Services said today that he “…couldn’t be more pleased to announce that funding has been approved to hire a new primary care team – made up of a Physician, Nurse Practitioner, Nurse and administrative staff – to serve the people living in the Cobden-Eganville corridor”. He noted, “For some time now, the Bonnechere Valley and Township of Whitewater have been on the Ministry’s list as an area of ‘high Physician need’. Mr. Jordan credits MPP Yakabuski with “championing the cause of thousands of citizens in his riding to have access to primary care and allied health services close to home.”

Brenda Powers Ross, Director of the Whitewater Bromley CHC, noted that “…adding a new team of primary care providers will go a long way toward addressing the shortfall in primary care services in our area. It should also greatly reduce pressure in our local hospitals, as many people have had to seek routine health care, including prescription renewals, from the emergency department because they had no other option”.

In doing the recruitment for new Practitioners, Powers-Ross commented that “the Community Health Centre’s interdisciplinary model of care, where Doctors and Nurse Practitioners work in partnership with Nurses, Health Promoters, Social Workers/Counsellors and others, provides greater support to Primary Care Providers, and enables them to better respond and support the needs of increasingly complex patients and an ageing population”.

Mr. Jordan added “Over the coming weeks, LRHCS will be finalizing the implementation plan and completing the recruitment process. We are pleased that we already have interest from Practitioners for these new positions. Once the staff are in place, we will start bringing on clients from our wait list. People without a current primary care provider will be prioritized. To have your name added to the wait list, please visit our website (www.wbchc.on.ca) to complete the online client registration form, or call the Whitewater Bromley Community Health Centre listed below”.
