PEMBROKE — For more than 30 years, Mental Health Services of Renfrew County has helped thousands of residents in our region cope with mental illness and journey back to wellness.
Now, to celebrate Mental Health Week, May 4 to 10, a new logo, slogan and marketing materials will be launched. These materials will help improve service access by way of a centralized phone number. In addition, it’s hoped that additional service promotion will let those living with mental illness know that wellness is within reach.
“Wellness Within Reach, our new slogan, speaks to an individual’s road to recovery and the importance of having care close to home,” said Mireille Delorme, Director for Mental Health Services of Renfrew County which is a program administered by Pembroke Regional Hospital.
During Mental Health Week, staff will be out in the community providing information, and answering questions about mental health and the programs and services offered, and it is hoped that the new logo will come to be recognized as a symbol for hope. Staff will be on location on May 2 in Renfrew at No Frills and on May 8 and 9 in Pembroke at the Pembroke Mall.
“At some point in their life, one in five Canadians will experience mental illness,” Ms. Delorme said. “Mental illness can produce changes in the way an individual thinks, behaves, and feels. It can also affect their ability to cope and function. However, with the right support, mental illness is treatable and individuals can live a full and satisfying life.”
Locally, those supports include a variety of regional, community-based services such as crisis management, service navigation, family information, individual or group support, adult counselling, case management, court diversion, housing, community education, and symptoms’ management, as well as inpatient care at Pembroke Regional Hospital.
Special teams are also in place to assist with geriatric mental health assessments and the early intervention and treatment of psychosis, and Ms. Delorme said her staff work closely with regional and local hospitals, addictions partners, police, paramedics as well as other mental health service providers like the Phoenix Centre For Children and Families and the Robbie Dean Family Counselling Centre to best meet the needs of the individual.
With offices in Renfrew, Pembroke, Arnprior and Barry’s Bay, Mental Health Services of Renfrew County has a staff of more than 100 healthcare professionals who, at any given time, are providing care and service to more than 1,000 people aged 16 and older.
