The Council heard a recommendation that Council of the Township of Whitewater Region amend the Human Resource policies by-law 21-07-1404 to include the Electronic Monitoring of Employees Policy as Schedule O.

CAO Burton said that the policy was to fulfill the requirement for the Township to have a monitoring policy, as per the Provincial mandate.

“We’ve put forward a pretty generic policy, but we’ve put this policy forward so that we have it in place.”

He said the policy needed to be in place by October 11th.

Mayor Moore asked if the policy applied to cell phones used by municipal employees.

“There are personal devices used for personal and for business, does that come into play?” he said

“In some cases, employees and Councillors will be given a cellphone. It’s municipal property, and we can monitor that 24 hours a day.” CAO Burton said. “If it’s a personal device, someone can make a Freedom of Information request, but what you do personally does not fall under this plan.” Burton said.

The motion was carried.
