Ten people are vying for a spot on Whitewater Region council.
Councillor incumbents Charlene Jackson, Dave Mackay and Daryl McLaughlin are each letting their name stand. Adding their hats into the councillor ring are Ron Laronde, Neil Nicholson and Donald Rathwell (former Reeve of the township). There are five councillor positions.
There are two candidates for the lone reeve’s chair. Cathy Regier, who has been a councillor for two terms, is challenging herself to move up the municipal political ladder. Entrepreneur and businessman Joe Kowalski is also vying for the reeve’s position.
There are two candidates for the mayor’s seat as well. Incumbent Hal Johnson and former deputy-fire chief Mike Moore.
In the education department, Anne Haley is vying for the English Separate trustee position while Robert Lemelin is running for the French Separate trustee. In the public school board, David Shields is a candidate for the English public school board while Collette Stitt is vying for the French Public trustee. All of these candidates are incumbents.
Whitewater News has already interviewed Mr. Johnson, Mr. McLaughlin, Ms. Jackson and Ms. Regier.
Some of the other candidates have been contacted and are not yet ready for a story, while others will be contacted later this week.
