Councillor McLaughlin – Gypsy Lane
The Council of Whitewater Region heard a recommendation from Councillor Daryl McLaughlin:
Whereas, the Township has received some concerns regarding snowmobile use on Gypsy Lane; and Whereas, residents have also requested continued access to the unopened road allowance beyond the opened portion of Gypsy Lane;
Therefore be it resolved that Council of the Township of Whitewater Region direct staff to prepare a report for Council’s consideration pertaining to options for continued snowmobile use on Gypsy Lane and potential public uses related to the unopened road allowance.
“I’ve gotten an awful lot of phone calls on this.” McLaughlin said. “I think it’s time to resolve this. If we’re going to let snowmobilers on this, then I want all the information on it so we can resolve it.”
Councillor Mackay asked if they were obligated to build any fences, and Mayor Moore said that each owner was obligated for their own fence.
“We don’t really have a policy on unopened road allowances, what is allowed and what isn’t.” Trembley said. “Perhaps it’s time for that.”
“It’s time to clean it up and get some guidance.”
Councillor Olmstead said he had been “getting a number of calls per day” on this issue, for a number of years. “Let’s get a resolution, because it’s causing an issue for taxpayers. Every time the police are involved, it’s another charge to be paid.”
The motion was carried.
