Councillor Jackson – Quarterly Report
Recommendation: Whereas, staff prepare an administration report on a quarterly basis outlining departmental activities; and
Whereas, the report is in writing and included on the agenda for Council and the public to read;
Therefore be it resolved that Council of the Township of Whitewater Region direct staff to only respond to questions when the report is presented to assist with meeting length.
“It’s just taking a lot of time listening to what you should have read.” Councillor McLaughlin said.
“This report is for the public as well, so if the questions are asked before the report and the CAO, that changes the report, so can the CAO bring those questions to the report authors..”
“The courtly report has been the four times a year where they can asked the reports on very operational matters.” Trembley said. “I can definitely bring questions forward.”
“I’m not in favour of this motion.” Reeve Regier said. “It’s’ a great opportunity to review the accomplishments staff have made, and it’s a great opportunity to work with us.”
“It shows we’re interested.” Mackay said. “I think it’s important to everyone in the council.”
Councillor Jackson asked if it could be changed to “Summarize the report and answer questions.”
CAO Trembley said that it could be added with the consent of the seconder.
Councillor McLaughlin, the seconder, said he “did not have a problem with that at all”.
“There’s a lot of information in a quarterly point moving from a monthly report.” Mayor Moore said. “Can we think of changing reports to bi-monthly reports?”
“I think the staff are trying to get away from Monthly reports.” Councillor Jackson said. “I think people still get the reports ahead of time ,and should read the reports.”
The motion was carried.
