IRENE ALBERTA STEPHENS (WALLACE)
Passed away August 8, 2017 at the Caressant Care nursing home in Cobden, Ontario. Born with her twin, Amy, and raised on Queens Line in Foresters Falls, daughter of Albert and Margaret Pearl Wallace (Pollock). She graduated in Matriculation from Renfrew Collegiate; passed her RN’s exam after 3 years nurse training at Herbert Reddy Women’s Hospital, Montreal; Certified in Operating Room Technique and Management, at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto; Served as a Nursing Sister in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps during WWII holding a rank of Lieutenant; Received Bachelor of Nursing in Public Health Nursing from McGill University in Montreal; Attended University of B. C. in Vancouver; And was employed as a Public Health Nurse in The Okanagan and Smithers, B. C. She met Robert Reid Stephens of North Vancouver, B. C. and they wed on Nov. 6, 1951 They raised their family in Smithers, North Vancouver and Port Coquitlam. After Bob’s death in 1991 she returned to the Ottawa Valley and Cobden in 1993 where she was active in the community for many years, before retiring to assisted living.
Predeceased by older brother George, younger brothers Ernie & Jim and younger sister Edna Kilby. Survived by her twin sister Amy Pollack of Ingleside and Sister-in-law Sheila Wallace (Jim) of Foresters Falls. Her children: Carleen E.J. Young, of Sydney, Australia (Michael, deceased) (John O’Brien) R. Douglas of Port Coquitlam, B.C., (Akiko Tsunekawa) Susan E. of Bequia, Saint Vincent & The Grenadines W. Brent of Edmonton, Alberta, (Rhonda Scheurer) Her grandchildren: Nicole C. Cummings (Brion) of Melbourne, Australia Stephanie C. Young, presently employed in Guangzhou, China Lisako C. Stephens of Port Coquitlam, B.C. Her Great Grand-son: Levi Cummings of Melbourne, Australia Thirteen nieces and nephews and their progeny. Services will be held at a date to be determined.
