WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) — It goes without saying that prom has changed over the years. Now, you’re able to attend whether or not you have a date. Having been traced back to the mid to late 1800’s, prom has become a staple when graduating high school.

High school is a time which helps to shape our formative years in young adulthood. On Saturday last weekend, Opeongo High School grade 12 students and their dates celebrated their impending graduation.

The official celebration was held at the Kagagimin Makwa Community Centre in Golden Lake, Ont. Attendees could be seen in suits and gowns as they piled out of their various vehicles, eager to dance the night away.

OHS student Jacob Moster arrived in a classic car, which was lent to him by his dad for the special occasion.

The community centre was decorated and students posed with their dates in the photo area.

“This is so much fun! This is the best night of my life!” Were just some of the loud cheers which rang throughout the parking lot just five minutes after the festivities officially began.

Parents, guardians and loved ones were also seen in the parking lot, taking pictures as the students celebrated their milestone.
