The Emergency Department renovations currently taking place at Renfrew Victoria Hospital got a huge shot in the arm with the presentation of a $50,000 cheque from Ontario Power Generation (OPG) on February 25, 2022.

The Corporate Citizenship Program allows OPG to demonstrate its commitment to keeping the communities where their facilities are located healthy and strong.

“OPG is very pleased to continue our support of RVH and its mission to provide high-quality care close to home for residents of Renfrew and the surrounding area,” said Shaun Hinds, OPG Director, Southeast Operations, East Region. “OPG is proud to contribute to initiatives that help enhance the important services our local healthcare heroes provide each and every day,” he added.

Updates to RVH’s emergency department will improve flow and efficiency to better serve more than 30,000 people who visit on an annual basis to receive essential care.

“The ED is a very busy, often stressful environment. The changes that are being made will result in an efficient space that is easier to navigate for both patients and ED staff, thereby improving the overall patient experience,” said Dr. Kristian Davis, ED Medical Director.

Among the planned improvements will be a new, fully equipped exam room, updated workstation and triage areas, and additional hand-wash sinks. Negative pressure airflow systems (single direction flow of clean air) also will be installed in both trauma bays to reduce the risk of transmitting airborne respiratory diseases, including COVID-19.

This recent donation to RVH puts OPG over the $100,000 mark. In the past, funds received have been used for the purchase of essential medical and diagnostic equipment that is not funded by the government.

“In acknowledgement of OPG’s generous contributions, a room-naming recognition will take place once the ED renovations are complete,” noted Patti Dillabough, RVH Foundation Executive Director.

“We truly appreciate this generous donation from OPG as well as all the support received in the past. The renovation of our Emergency Department will include significant improvements in safety and delivery of care for patients, staff and physicians alike” stated Julia Boudreau, RVH CEO.

Work on the ED renovation project began in the fall 2021 and is expected to reach completion in spring 2023, pending receipt of all the necessary materials and equipment.
