The Renfrew Detachment of the OPP investigated 205 calls for service during the past week, including traffic complaints, assaults, and domestic disputes.
Domestic Disputes
Renfrew and Arnprior OPP officers investigated 10 domestic disputed during the past week. One female was charged with assault and failing to comply with a probation order, one male was charged with assault and domestic mischief, one female was charged with aiding and abetting a breach of an undertaking, one female was charged with impersonating a police officer and failing to comply with an undertaking, and one female was charged with assault, theft under $5,000, possession of schedule 1 drug and possession of schedule 2 drug. No other criminal offences occurred.
Minimize Your Risk on Ice
The OPP are urging people to evaluate the ice quality and use extreme caution prior to venturing out onto lakes and waterways. One ice shack went through the ice on the Ottawa River in McNab Braeside Township and was reported to the OPP. The mishap occurred on Sunday January 8 and no injuries were reported. This incident is a reminder that there is always some risk to travel or use of waterways during the winter. People should avoid slushy ice, ice on or near moving water, ice that has thawed and refrozen or layered ice caused by sudden temperature changes. A minimum of 4 inches of new clear hard ice is recommended for ice fishing or walking. More ice is needed for snowmobiling or driving motor vehicles.
Damage at Admaston Outdoor Rink
Unknown persons attempted to break in to the canteen at the Admaston Outdoor Rink at Admaston Public School. The damage to a door was discovered Friday afternoon and occurred overnight Thursday to Friday. Provincial Constable Lindsay Moore is investigating.
Mischief
A victim reported damage to their truck while at Shooters Grill January 2, 2017 from approximately 6:00 – 7:00 pm. During that time, damage was done to the passenger side door of the vehicle and the damage was located approximately 24 hours after. The victim believes it may have been struck by a vehicle or struck by another possibly motorized snow vehicle but is unsure.
A victim reported that sometime between January 1, at 4:00 pm and January 2, 2017 at 08:30 am, their mailbox had been smashed. They noted tire tracks around the mailbox on Robertson Lane in the Township of McNab Braeside.
Impaired Driver
On Saturday January 7 at approximately 7:38 pm Renfrew OPP officers responded to a possible impaired driver on Raglan Street S in Renfrew. A second caller reported the same vehicle as a possible impaired driver on Highway 60 westbound leaving Renfrew. The suspect vehicle was located and the male driver had been drinking. After an investigation, the male driver was arrested for impaired driving. Following breath tests at the detachment Travis Fochuk, age 23, of Renfrew, was charged with impaired driving and driving over 80mgs. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on February 15, 2017. Provincial Constable Patrick O’Connor led the investigation.
Liquor Licence Act Charge
One male was arrested after reports of an intoxicated male walking on Bruce Street in Renfrew at 4:22 am on Saturday January 7, 2017. Jimmy McCauley, age 33 of Leamington, was held in custody until sober. He was released with a ticket for the offence of being intoxicated in a public place.
Break and Enter
An apartment on Claude Street in Arnprior was entered and a quantity of cash stolen. The break in happened during the daytime on Saturday January 7. The apartment was entered through an empty apartment adjacent to the victims. A wall was damaged to gain entry. Provincial Constable Carlvin Bergins is investigating.
