The Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the OPP reminds residents that tampering with and/or removing traffic safety devices such as traffic cones can lead to criminal charges and put all road users at serious risk.
The warning comes after the OPP recently received information from the Renfrew County Roads Department that traffic cones had gone missing in the Palmer Rapids area. Such traffic safety devices are in use throughout the County to warn drivers of dangerous situations such as washouts, sink holes and road closures. Removing the traffic cones can result in an imminent danger to the public in the form of unmarked dangers and road hazards.
Tampering with or removing traffic safety devices can lead to criminal charges including mischief and theft. Anyone with information surrounding such activity is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Pembroke/Renfrew County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or at www.valleytips.ca.
