(Ottawa, ON) – Members of the Ottawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were busy on Canada Day weekend. Officers issued 200 tickets between Friday (28 June) and Monday (1 July) on Ottawa highways.

Of these 200 charges, 17 were for motorists that Failed to Move Over for Emergency Vehicles that had their emergency lights on.

The OPP would like to remind motorists that the law requires vehicles to slow down and change lane (if safe to do so) when passing an emergency vehicle or tow truck with emergency lights activated on multi lane highways. If you fail to slow down and move away from an emergency vehicle or tow truck, a $490 fine can be issued.
