RENFREW COUNTY (Pembroke) — The Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Petawawa are pleased to announce the first ever Ottawa Valley Butter Tart Festival and Contest will be held Saturday, November 9. The Festival will take place at the Petawawa Civic Centre from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with the winners of the butter tart contest scheduled to be announced at 3:15 p.m.
The contest has two divisions, professional and home/amateur bakers. Each division has three categories, traditional (plain, pecan, raisin, maple walnut and coconut); valley style (a butter tart, but with the added twist of a non-traditional ingredient or two); and specialty (gluten free, Keto or diabetic). Each baker must submit five butter tarts per entry for judging. All entries, regardless of division, must be baked in a certified and health inspected kitchen. Entry applications will be accepted until 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5. Entry applications for both the professional and home/amateur bakers can be found on the UOV Chamber website or by contacting the Chamber office by telephone or email.
Professional bakers also have the opportunity to be a vendor in the festival. Based on interest to participate in the vendor market, other types of vendor products will be considered as long as there are no hot food items.
This is a first time event that is anticipated to become an annual tradition. Butter tart festivals are great draws and if the Facebook reactions are any indication, it will be well attended.
