BEACHBURG – 83-year-old Beachburg resident Russel Mackay raised $14,000 for Renfrew Hospice walking across Renfrew County, in his second major walk for charity.

Know as Papa around Beachburg, he walked in Deep River, Petawawa, Pembroke, Cobden, Renfrew, and Arnprior, over the course of three days from October 8th to 10.

On October 6th in Beachburg, Mackay and family wore “Team Papa shirts and collected donations, as well as sold baked goods.

Mackay said the fundraising was going “really well.”

“They do a lot of good.” he said.

He said he donated $1000 to the fundraiser himself.

Russell Mackay is blind and diabetic, but still maintains a daily walking schedule.

According to him, he still walks 3.5 to 4 miles a day, using ski poles to help navigate.

Last year, Mackay walked from Beachburg to Ottawa to raise money for CHEO, and raised 120,000 for them, walking 130 miles.

The Beachburg Lion’s club donated $250 to Papa Walks Again.
