PEMBROKEOn Wednesday, September 26, at approximately 10:50 a.m., members of the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the OPP and the Pembroke Fire Department (PFD) responded to a fire alarm at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.

The smell of smoke in a courtroom is believed to have activated the alarm causing the evacuation of the building. The evacuation included five prisoners in custody who were evacuated from the building by police.

The PFD gave the all clear notice just before 12 noon and normal operations have since resumed at the court house. Maintenance on the HVAC system is believed to have caused the alarm.
