PEMBROKE — On the afternoon of Thursday, April 11, members of the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the OPP responded to a shoplifting incident at a large retail store in the 1100 block of Pembroke Street East in Laurentian Valley Township. A male suspect had fled the store on foot after attempting to steal a bicycle.

Police located the male a short time later at a nearby shopping mall and he was taken into custody. The suspect had also shoplifted a pair of sunglasses from a store at the mall. The stolen property was returned and the male suspect was charged and released on a promise to appear in court.

The following morning, on Friday, April 12, police responded to a theft in progress after a pair of sunglasses were stolen from an unlocked vehicle that was parked in the 0-100 block of Mary Street in the City of Pembroke.  The suspect was arrested later that same day and found to be in possession of the stolen sunglasses.

The same male was responsible for the series of thefts.

As a result, 24-year-old Chayton Gerald Geoffrey of Pembroke is facing the following Criminal Code charges: theft under $5,000 shoplifting – two counts; theft under $5,000 from a motor vehicle; possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and fail to comply with probation – two counts.
