RENFREW COUNTY (Pembroke) — The Minister of Health has announced that all 23 medium-sized Ontario hospitals, including the Pembroke Regional Hospital, will receive an additional one and a half per cent funding increase to alleviate financial pressures.
“Our government is committed to ending hallway health care for Ontarians,” said John Yakabuski, MPP, for Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke. “The increased investment will provide additional financial support for medium-sized hospitals, such as the Pembroke Regional Hospital, that have been faced with long-standing funding inequities, and allow these hospitals to provide improved access to quality care.”
The increased funding for PRH will go toward meeting inflationary cost pressures and improving the financial health of the hospital in order for it to make investments in medical equipment which is nearing the end of its lifecycle and needing replacement.
“The Pembroke Regional Hospital would like to thank the province of Ontario and our local MPP, John Yakabuski, for this support,” said Pierre Noel, the President and CEO of the Pembroke Regional Hospital. “An additional 1.5% in funding for the current year will help the hospital meet inflationary pressures and keep care close to home.
The more care we can provide in smaller communities, the more we help alleviate hallway healthcare in large urban centres. Small and medium- sized hospitals are often the backbone of their communities and having adequate and stable funding helps to keep them strong and vibrant,” Mr. Noel said.
