RENFREW COUNTY (Petawawa) — The Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is seeking the public’s assistance in a suspected arson case. On May 4 at approximately 6:30 a.m., officers responded to a report of a structure fire at 440 Bissett Creek Road in the United Township of Head, Clara and Maria. A cottage or hunting-camp structure was destroyed in the blaze, but there was no one in the building at the time and no injuries.

Firefighters with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry attended the scene, as the blaze was spreading into the adjacent trees. The investigation revealed that someone had attempted to break into storage containers on the property. Evidence shows that a lone male had been on the property shortly after 4:00 a.m. that morning, but left moments before the blaze began about half an hour later. The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted and the investigation is continuing.
