Police make arrest in break, enter

RENFREW COUNTY (Pembroke) — There have been more than a dozen business break-ins in the Pembroke area over the last few months. On June 3, officers arrested a suspect in connection with two of the break-ins.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) East Region Community Street Crime Unit and Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment have laid charges in connection with recent commercial break-ins.

Joseph McLeod, 37 years old of Pembroke, is charged under the Criminal Code with three counts of fail to comply with a Probation Order, two counts of break and enter to commit an indictable offence, theft under $5000, and mischief under $5000.

The accused remained in custody and appeared by video before the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on Tuesday, June 9. Members of the Street Crime Unit, UOV Detachment and UOV OPP Crime Unit are continuing to investigate the remaining break-ins.
