RENFREW – The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated 260 calls for service during the past week.
Domestic Disputes
Officers in Renfrew and Arnprior investigated 18 domestic disputes during the past week. One male was charged with three counts of uttering threats, assault and criminal harassment; one male was charged with criminal harassment; one investigation is continuing; one female was charged with two counts of failing to comply with a recognizance and possession of cocaine; and one male was charged with unsafe storage of a firearm.
Vehicle Stolen and Recovered
Officers investigated the theft of a vehicle early Sunday morning, Sept. 11. The vehicle, a 2003 Hyundai CTS silver two-door, was stolen from June Street in Renfrew between 1:30 and 2 a.m. The vehicle was recovered, damaged, in a farm field near the intersection of Russett Drive and Bundy’s Road in the Township of McNab Braeside. The investigation is continuing.
A black, 2005 Kia Spectra, Ont. Lic. BZVS 610, was stolen from Renfrew during the evening or overnight of Friday, September 9. The vehicle was parked, unlocked, on the fairgrounds at 8 p.m. Friday and discovered missing the next morning. Provincial Constable Amanda Carruthers is investigating.
Robbery and Assault Charges
Two people are facing charges after a victim reported property was taken from her by force and she was assaulted by the suspects.
On Monday, September 5 at approx. 2 p.m., the victim was on Raglan Street S in Renfrew when a male and female known to her grabbed a bag from her and stole items. The victim asked a passerby to call 9-1-1.
The victim continued to her residence where she was assaulted by the suspects. They fled prior to police arrival.
The suspects turned themselves in to police later that day.
Pamela Belaire, 32, and Jacob Yerrek, 30, both of Renfrew, were each charged with assault and robbery. They were released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on Wednesday, October 26.

Impaired Driver
One male is facing charges after police conducted an impaired driving investigation.
A/Sgt Cory Briscoe stopped a vehicle on Sunday, September 11 at 2 a.m. on Highway 417 near White Lake Road for a traffic infraction. The male driver failed a roadside alcohol screening test and was arrested. Following further breath tests at detachment Franklin Emon, 25, of Arnprior, was charged with driving over 80mgs. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on Wednesday, October 12.
Fraud
Officers investigated three fraud related calls last week.
One victim received an email supposedly from the Canadian Government – Canada Revenue Agency. In this case the victim was advised they would receive money from the CRA when they provided personal information including their Social Insurance Number (SIN), banking and credit card information. The information was provided before the person realized it was a scam. All cards were cancelled and no financial loss occurred.
Officers also dealt with an individual who had someone use their name to obtain a cell phone at a kiosk in a mall. The person is dealing with the cell phone company.
One other person received a letter from someone claiming to be able to produce wealth and happiness for a small fee. No funds were exchanged.
Everyone is encouraged to be diligent in safeguarding your personal information to protect yourself from frauds. Don’t share bank account information, credit card numbers unless you need to. Contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre for more information.
Mischief
A window was smashed on a vehicle parked overnight on Scheel Drive in the Township of McNab Braeside. The owner advised that at around 1 a.m. on Monday, September 5 their dog barked but they did not observe anything until the morning when they discovered the damage.
A rock was thrown through a window at a trailer in the Cedar Haven Campground, near Cobden, on Friday, September 9 in the afternoon. The rock was thrown around 3:45 in the afternoon. There are no suspects
A vehicle was driven across a lawn and damaged patio furniture on McLean Street in Renfrew. The incident happened at 6 p.m on Friday, September 9. There is a suspect in the case. Provincial Constable Amanda Carruthers is investigating.
