WHITEWATER REGION (Westmeath) — The Riverview Seniors Social Club (RSSC) held its annual end year June pot-luck supper to observe the finish of their current year.
Approximately 50 members attended the smorgasbord meal representing 60 percent of total membership. Outgoing President Doreen McNair presented five members with a certificate for an honourary lifetime membership, having reached the age of 80 years. The members are Herb Jeffrey, Bill Ashley, Inez Winter, Beulah Wright and Dudery Kenny (who was absent).
Ms. McNair then introduced Gayle Stewart, the newly elected president.
Ms. Stewart graciously thanked everyone who contributed to the success of the club and said, “While similar clubs are dwindling in membership or have closed down, our club is growing.”
She did acknowledge that she had big shoes to fill, after Ms. McNair’s tenure of four years under her leadership as president.
To wrap up the evening, Linda Bromley bestowed Ms. McNair with a gift and bouquet of flowers for all her diligent work for the past four years.
Ms. Bromley had last say.
“We have come full circle,” she said. “Arndell McBride was the first Seniors Club President back in 1972 and now his daughter Gayle Stewart has taken over the position.”
Regular activities such as Soup and Sandwich and regular meetings begin again in September.
The new executive members are President Gayle Stewart, Vice President D’Arcy McMullen, Treasurer Paul Stewart and Secretary Doreen McNair.
