Twice a year the Renfrew Presbyterian Church supports Mission Projects in the community and surrounding area, within Canada or anywhere around the world.

“This year our Mission and Outreach Committee wanted to support a local organization in our community that could benefit, and we decided we would like to work with our local hospital,” says Pastor David McFarlane. “We wanted something tangible that people in our congregation could see and maybe even use if they or their family members were hospitalized.”

The committee challenged itself to raise sufficient funds to purchase a piece of equipment. The committee not only achieved their goal, they surpassed it. Funds raised will purchase a second portable Thera trainer for the physiotherapy department, which helps patients to build strength and endurance and helps to speed recovery and return home.

“It is in very high demand,” notes Jenn St. Michael, RVH Senior Physiotherapist. “We really truly appreciate this—it will be well used. The committee directed the remaining funds towards new furniture for the gazebo that is part of the Healing Garden at the front of the hospital.

“We realize that a tranquil, stress-free space away from tests and procedures is also an important aspect of healing,” says Reverend McFarlane. The new weather-proof, comfortable chairs and love seats are already in place and have received approval from patients and family members using the space. “It’s really nice. This place is used every day of the week,” said one family member.

“We are glad we could give back to our community in this way,” stated Reverend McFarlane.
