Procedure in event of Lame Duck situation approaching Council Election

The Council of the Township of Whitewater Region received a report for information purposes regarding restricted acts during a Lame Duck situation.

Clerk Carmen Miller said that due to a delegated authority bylaw, the Township does not have to approve a by-law.

Less than 75% of the council returning leads to a ‘lame duck’ situation, where the CAO would have to be delegated authority for Council actions.

August 19th and October 24th has a ‘possibility’ of the situation.

CAO Burton said that that they need six members returning and not competing for a position.

He outlined that dismissal or appointment of new employees, and financial actions not in the budget over $50,000.
